12th Cyprus Energy Symposium

The 12th Annual Cyprus Energy Symposium, a key event in Cyprus’ energy landscape, took place on November 15, 2024, at the Royal Hall Hotel in Nicosia. The symposium was jointly organized by the Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) and FMW Financial Media Way, bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the sector.

This year’s agenda covered a wide range of critical topics, including:

  • Regulatory and energy policy developments.
  • Hydrocarbon exploration and production activities.
  • The structure and operation of both European and domestic electricity markets.
  • The strategic electricity interconnection between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel.
  • The introduction of natural gas into Cyprus’ energy system.
  • Expansion of renewable energy sources.
  • Government initiatives to enhance energy efficiency in buildings, businesses, and industry.

GreenH2CY Project Highlights

A notable session of the symposium was dedicated to “Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency.” During this session, Mr. Makis Ketonis presented the innovative GreenH2CY project, marking a significant milestone for Cyprus. The project, funded by the European Union, is the first of its kind to introduce green hydrogen into the Cypriot economy. The planning permit was issued on 25/9/2024.

This initiative underscores the commitment to advancing clean energy technologies and integrating sustainable solutions, positioning the country at the forefront of green innovation in the region.
